7 November: More about preparation for snow:

Information about BCC's county-wide gritting routes is available on http://www.transportforbucks.net/Winter-maintenance.aspx. If "local roads" means residential roads, they will not be gritted by the County Council.

People need to be aware that in severe weather, they may not be able to get out as they normally do. There is a need for "community spirit" in helping those who are more vulnerable and making sure they are warm and have what they need. An offer to shop, fetch prescriptions, just to pop in to make sure all is well, would I'm sure help to reassure people who are not able to get out. Transport for Buckinghamshire (TfB) has advised that the following roads are salted routinely during the winter:
• Ellesborough Road, Wendover
• Tring Road, Wendover

24 November: HALTON SCHOOL OUTS ROAD SAFETY INTO PRACTICE AT RAF HALTON

A group of children from Halton Combined School have this week taken road safety into their own hands.

To coincide with RAF Halton’s speed safety week the children worked with the Police Flight to conduct speed tests on all the vehicles leaving the Station where the speed limit is 20MPH.

All those who were caught speeding were pulled over by PC Sam Bradley, RAF Halton’s Community Policeman, whereupon the children asked the offending driver a series of questions designed to make them think about the very few gains of speeding against the possible consequences of crashing or hitting someone, particularly a child.

One of the ‘offenders’, Flight Lieutenant Zia Higgins said: “Although I was planted so that that the kids could practise their questions, it definitely put speeding into perspective for me. It would only take a couple of seconds of distraction to cause an accident and hitting a child at 30MPH instead of 20MPH would make a massive difference to their injuries.”

The visit by the school children coincided with RAF Halton’s Road Safety Week organised by PC Bradley. Conducted annually the week saw a series of different activities all aimed at increasing awareness in a variety of road safety issues. PC Bradley said: “Road safety shouldn’t just be reserved for one week per year, it’s important that people look after their vehicles all year round in order to keep themselves and other people safe.”

26 November: During December 2011 AVDC and WPC are conducting a survey to ask the people of Wendover how they see the future. A questionnaire will be delivered to each home or you can complete the online survey using the link on the WPC website www.wendover-pc.gov.uk. The Wendover Fact Pack can also be downloaded from the same site or read in the Clock Tower or the Library. This is your chance to influence planning for the next 20 years.
